Sentimental Journeys

I joined the Creative Writing course back in 2015 because I needed structure and guidance to improve my writing. The course had lots of tasks to challenge and hone one’s creative writing skills, led by an excellent teacher. It also allowed many opportunities to meet new people who love reading and writing.

English is not my first language, but I have a passion for the English language, literature and poetry. Whether it’s Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Charles Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, or more recently Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner, I love them all. I start reading and lose myself in their narratives. Words have so much power and beauty that it is beyond words to convey. It is meant to be felt by souls who can connect to a stranger through magical sentences and paragraphs. It’s amazing!

I would love to reach that level of storytelling and I believe I will. Through the creative writing group; I am able to explore different styles of expressions and different ways of writing which is highly beneficial to develop and grow as a writer. With regular tasks set for us, we get plenty of practice to refine the art.

The Writers Group comprises extremely talented members; I learn more from them every time we discuss writing and books. We are a team of people from varied backgrounds who share a common interest and the best part is that we learn from one another through critique and encouragement. Their craft and skills have inspired me to challenge myself and become a better writer. Needless to say, this has also been the foundation for great friendships, and I am truly blessed to have them in my life.

I am currently working on various personal projects that are based on my life experiences and I hope to become a published author soon. In sha Allah. I love to travel, I love to meet new people, and experience new cultures and foods because I think understanding each other and understanding different characters and cultures help us to make better sense of the world we live in. Traveling enriches the soul and consequently reflects on the expression. Thus, I am eager to embark on new trips in the near future and I am certain they will enlighten me in many ways to write and inspire.
