Sentimental Journeys

There was a time when I was totally oblivious to the thing called writing. I never knew the wonders behind a word or the art it can create. I always enjoyed reading books and poetry but it did not occur to me that, one day I would be able to put a few words together to create something. Something not necessarily any good but it is mine; my own words, my own expressions!

I never thought about being a writer during my younger days and it never occurred to me that I could string a sentence together but then an opportunity came that kindled a desire to write.
It happened all by chance, for fun.

I began writing in a forum over a decade ago, just out of curiosity. I did not know I had an interest in writing until that point. I did not know what it meant to write but I contributed by responding to what other people were saying in the forum threads. It was a new world for me, and I was really intrigued to know what makes the post-writers come back on a daily basis. I wondered how they motivated themselves to participate regularly. It did not pay, it did not give any awards, there were no material or monetary rewards, and yet the platform was thriving with interactions of all kinds.

After much contemplation, one day, I wrote a small paragraph about one of the characters and posted it. It felt surreal. I had given away my words, my expression to the world wide web. It baffled me but then I was totally surprised when people came back with their responses and feedback. It is that connection with others that gives the sheer thrill of writing reviews for a television show and getting feedback became the driving factor. Joining a discussion group and getting to know about other people’s views and opinions was fascinating. I would watch an episode and analyse it in great detail. Then, minutes later I would see the replies from other members. It felt so good to receive such a warm response. To have other people read what you write and then engage in a positive way is definitely enough for an adrenaline rush.

The enthusiasm grew when a multitude of members joined in to add their thoughts and responses. It is the interaction that compelled me to write on a daily basis, and so the journey continues….
